The earth has entered a period of changes that differs from previous episodes of global change in the extent to which it is human in origin. To explain or predict the course of the present global environmental changes, you must, therefore, understand the human sources, consequences, and responses, some of which can alter the course of global change.

To understand global environmental change, it is necessary to focus on the interactions of environmental systems, including the atmosphere, the biosphere, the geosphere, and the hydrosphere, and human systems, including economic, political, cultural, and sociotechnical systems.

Lucubrate Magazine has many articles that include different parts of the environmental systems. You will find some samples of articles by following the links under.

The world’s forests are taking up increasingly more carbon, partially offsetting the carbon being released by the burning of fossil fuels and by deforestation in the tropics, according to a new synthesis of model simulations.

The ocean and coasts provide critical ecosystem services such as carbon storage, oxygen generation, food and income generation.
Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) is a set of country-driven activities leading to the identification, prioritization and diffusion of climate technologies for mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Through TNA, developing countries identify their climate technology needs. They then develop a technology action plan to turn their climate technology needs into concrete action on the ground.
Climate risks are intensifying, as the world experiences an increasing number of extreme weather events. Over the last six years, more than half of extreme weather events have been attributed to climate change. Climate shocks impact developed and developing countries alike, putting large communities at risk of displacement and causing severe damage to vital infrastructure.
Substantial progress was achieved during the period between 2000 and 2015 in the global economy and in the promotion of decent work, especially in the form of a reduction in working poverty and child labour. But wage growth has stagnated and, to a large extent, inequality has risen.
The long-term goal of the 2015 Paris Agreement is to keep the increase in global average temperature to less than 2°C above pre-industrial levels. The Agreement aims to help countries meet this target and strengthen societies’ capacities to address the wide-ranging impacts of climate change.
With scientists warning that the window to prevent the Earth’s climate hitting irreversible tipping points is fast closing, an increasingly strident activism movement says a strong signal from the summit is the only acceptable outcome.
Between 2000 and 2012, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which cause climate change, increased by 33 per cent worldwide, and, between 2000 and 2013, material extraction increased by 62 per cent. This resource- and carbon-intensive model of economic activity has put pressure on the environment, with the result that economic activity today is unsustainable.
